About Gender Studies Therapy Courses
As society evolves, so too must our understanding of gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity. Research shows that more people than ever are identifying as non-heterosexual or gender-diverse, making it essential for psychotherapists, counsellors, and psychologists to deepen their knowledge of Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD). With up to 4.5% of adults identifying as gender-diverse—and an even greater number exploring questions around their gender identity—therapists are increasingly called upon to provide affirming, informed, and nuanced support in clinical settings.
At nscience, our gender studies therapy courses equip mental health professionals with the skills and insights needed to work effectively with LGBTQ+ clients. These courses explore the unique challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face in accessing mental health care, from societal stigma to the microaggressions and biases that can exist even within therapy. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of diverse gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures, learning how to cultivate an affirmative, non-judgmental therapeutic space that actively challenges heteronormativity.
Our expert-led courses integrate theory with practical application, helping therapists build cultural competence through case studies, reflective exercises, and applied interventions. Topics covered include:
- Hidden shame and its impact on LGBTQ+ mental health
- Fatherhood and evolving gender roles
- Identity-based trauma and therapeutic approaches
- Supporting partners of individuals undergoing gender transition
nscience offers a wide range of courses in gender studies, delivered through dynamic and engaging formats—including workshops, practical exercises, case vignettes, lessons, handouts, and videos. With world-class speakers guiding each session, participants gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills that can be immediately incorporated into clinical practice.
Whether you’re new to working with GSRD clients or looking to refine your approach, our courses provide the tools to foster a more inclusive, responsive, and affirming therapeutic space.
