Full course information
Neglect doesn’t leave bruises.
It doesn’t show up in flashbacks.
Often, it doesn’t even come with a story.
And yet, its effects can be just as devastating as any overt trauma.
In this on-demand, 5.5-hour video course, internationally renowned psychotherapist Ruth Cohn introduces a neglect-informed framework for understanding and treating early relational neglect—an often-invisible wound that shapes how people feel, relate, and function throughout life.
Blending decades of clinical experience with deeply personal narrative, Ruth shines a light on what has too often been overlooked: the psychological impact of what never happened.
Across nine rich teaching sessions and a bonus module, you’ll learn how to identify the subtle yet enduring imprint of early absence—where no one showed up, tuned in, or cared enough—and respond with insight, presence, and skill.
This course is more than information—it’s a chance to expand your clinical gaze and bring language, validation, and care to a population still living in the shadows. nscience is proud to bring this extraordinary learning resource to our audience—an essential addition to your trauma-informed practice.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Recognise the behavioural, emotional, and relational markers of early neglect—even when clients cannot articulate their experiences.
- Understand how absence shapes identity, emotion regulation, attachment, sexuality, and intimacy.
- Tune into embodied, nonverbal, and unconscious communication in the therapy room.
- Differentiate neglect from other traumas to avoid retraumatisation through misattunement.
- Apply neglect-informed strategies to your trauma therapy work.
