About affect regulation courses for therapists
Affect regulation is the capacity to handle emotional experiences and respond to emotions appropriately. Affect regulation theory deals with how we develop the ability to manage our responses to emotions. The main idea is that these abilities are rooted in our early childhood experiences.
Our courses help therapists deepen their understanding of many manifestations of affect regulation. In adult psychotherapy, we often see clients who have missed out certain developmental stages during childhood and are left with developmental deficits, which can show up across emotional, affect regulatory and behavioural manifestations, with significant impact on their lives. These are particularly devastating when they affect self-regulatory mechanisms, causing upheavals throughout their emotional and social lives and profoundly impacting their resilience to stressful and traumatic events.
Sometimes some symptoms are difficult to provide therapy for, but it can also be a frustrating therapeutic journey, which is bound to be slow and can happen in barely discernible increments. However, Nscience’s affect regulation courses offer valuable insights and strategies to help practitioners address underlying issues, so that when clients persist in the work, we can guide them effectively as psychotherapists and counsellors.
Learning on our courses is facilitated through a variety of methods, including a combination of theory, case vignettes, practical exercises, workshops, lessons, handouts, and videos, all delivered by world-class speakers.
